The Story of where Karma Sleeps

A girl had once asked her grandmother where Karma sleeps. The grandmother paused for a moment and said ‘karma sleeps in your hands, it sleeps in your gaze, it sleeps in your voice sleeps, and in your breath. Because it is so much a part of us, we need to be careful how we wake karma, as it is always with us. How Karma wakes within us is very important, as it impacts us very directly, although sometimes quietly. 


When we have a nice peaceful breath response, when we are compassionate and kind to others, Karma responds with compassion and kindness. If someone harms another, with regard to a breath comparison, it’s more equivalent to a hyper ventilation response. When harm is shown, Karma responds in-kind. When observing harmful actions by others, our hope may be for harm to that person of equal or greater value. When we do not see what we think is fair and just, we may become frustrated. We

Must keep in mind, Karma can be complex responding in a multilateral way. Our role is not to judge. It is to be at peace with our own behaviors and actions. This is not to say we should not speak up and assert ourselves. We absolutely should, keeping in mind our own Karma, and not owning another person’s actions or accountability. We own our Karma. Consider carefully how to wake our own Karma. 


When we think of waking Karma, think of it this way. Think how you would want to be awakened from sleep. I like to be awakened gently with kindness. When we wake Karma, we need to awaken it with kindness and compassion, in order to have the same shown to us. It is a simple concept - show compassion, receive compassion.
