Projects: unlikely places to find peace

Workbenches, workshops, tables, craft tables craft rooms, whatever the case may be, these are spaces in which we focus in the moment. These are places for us to escape the pressures of our days. This is in an attempt to remove distractions, as you don’t want to mess up your project. Compare this to the practice of mindfulness. What are we doing? We’re trying to remove distractions.

In mindfulness, we are allowing distractions to pass, while we focus in the moment. This may sound familiar, and aligned with project work. Could your practice be a variation of peacefulness and mindfulness? Absolutely!

There are ways to take this to another level. Before you start your next project, consider practicing some intentional breathing. Try 4, 7, 8 breathing, then start your project. You may find that you enter into the project in a more peaceful state of mind. You may even discover, throughout the project that you’re enjoying it more. You may discover, as you complete your project, you are in a different state of mind. Thereby, taking you to some peaceful moments. Regular practice of peacefulness can take you into a state of peacefulness, a preferred place to be.

As we enter a state of peacefulness, extreme emotional reactions are less likely. We find ourselves in a more balanced and consistent state. People around us may notice and say things like, you seem more relaxed. Or even, I was expecting more of a reaction from you. The ultimate consequence is, our decision making is more balanced and peaceful. This leads to more sound decision making.
